Shao Dong and Fang Mei kicked up a fuss in the corridor for a while before they got tired and left. Shao Yin sighed. Everything was happening all at once. Now that they had offended Tang Hui today, she did not know how she was going to face the Xia family and Qiao Mei in the future!

Shao Yin knocked on the door and said, “I’m sorry… I was unable to stop them and had caused you trouble. I’m really sorry…”

The next few days passed peacefully and there was no news at all. Xia Wen had also informed Shao Yin to stay at home and not to go out. On the fifth day, a group of police officers barged into Shao Yin’s house and then blocked all the exits.

“What are you doing!” Shao Dong said in a panic.

“Are you Xia Xing!” a police officer pointed at Shao Dong and asked.

Shao Dong hurriedly waved his hands in a panic and explained, “That’s not me! I’m not Xia Xing! You’ve got the wrong person!”

“Why are you looking for Xia Xing…” Shao Yin asked fearfully.

“Xia Xing is suspected of reselling state property. We’re here to arrest him,” the police officer said sternly.

When Shao Yin heard this, she immediately fainted. It was chaotic all around after that.

Xia Xing and Shao Le were both taken into custody, but they were not sent to the detention center. Instead, they were sent to a venue which was under the control of the Xia family. The higher-ups had granted approval for this.

However, the police had created a huge commotion this time round and everyone knew about this issue by now. The Xia family was in trouble.

“Who leaked the news?” Qiao Mei asked with a frown.

Xia Wen shook his head and said, “I don’t know either. I don’t have any leads. With the clues Shao Le provided, we are still unable to find out who the mastermind is.”

Xia Wen had tapped on all his connections but only managed to find some superficial information. He did not manage to find out anything about the heart of this matter. It felt like there was a huge net being cast over them and the mastermind was not doing it to get the Xia family’s money, but to attack the Xia family members.

“Is there anything else we can do?” Qiao Mei asked.

“The matter is already in the hands of the higher-ups. We can only wait for the results. If we interfere now, it will only make things worse,” Xia Wen said.

“Then… then will Xia Xing…” Xia Wan asked fearfully.

“No. As long as we make restitution for the items which Shao Le sold, it won’t become a big deal. But… there will be a price to be paid for it,” Xia Wen said solemnly.

In this era, the legal system was not a robust one. Regarding this issue, as long as the Xia family made restitution and paid a fine, no one would point a finger at them. After that, Xia Xing would likely be sent to prison for only about three years.

The higher-ups would also give Xia Xing some respite on account of the Xia family. After all, the mastermind behind this matter had no intention of taking the life of any Xia family member. He definitely knew about Xia Jun’s temper. If anyone dared to take the life of a descendant of the Xia family, Xia Jun would not let the person off even if he had to dig three feet into the ground.

The mastermind only wanted to embarrass the Xia family and cause them to live in shame in the capital.

“What’s the value of the tobacco that Shao Le sold?” Qiao Mei asked.

“Six million,” Xia Wen said.

Everyone else who was present gasped audibly, except for Qiao Mei. Her total net worth was more than 20 million dollars, but she did not have that much cash on hand. Furthermore, she had just given Qian’e a large sum of money for the business expansion plans.

“Third Uncle definitely doesn’t have that much money. Do I need to be the one to fork out the money?” Qiao Mei asked Shao Yin coldly.

Shao Yin immediately knelt in front of Qiao Mei and said, “Please save Xia Xing! I know it’s a lot of money! But you have the money, right? Please save him… I’m willing to be your slave! I’ll sell my blood! As long as I can save Xia Xing! I’ll do anything! Please!”
