1879 Chairman Sheng’s Identity
Shangguan Tong noticed Huo Yao’s calmness. The worry in her heart gradually subsided. She paused and said, “It’s not hard to tackle this problem. Just do something to cover your scent.”
Animals could only track someone using their scent. As long as the animals were unable to find the scent, the method would fail.
Huo Yao also came up with this solution, but she did not think Shangguan Hou’s methods would be that simple.
If covering her scent was enough, Liang Qiu would not have specially asked to see her to remind her.
After all, it was unlikely for Shangguan Hou not to foresee that she would find out and take precautions.
As the smell of Chinese medicine wafted in the air, Huo Yao contemplated and said, “I will make some scent later.”
Shangguan Tong agreed. She nodded. “I think it’s worth trying.”
“Uh huh,” Huo Yao acknowledged softly and wanted to leave.
“Hang on.” Shangguan Tong called her back. She looked up at the living room and said, “When are you giving me the white jade?”
Huo Yao’s phone rang in her pocket. She halted briefly and took out her phone without answering Shangguan Tong.
It was text messages from Meng Jue.
[Remember the middle-aged guy talking to you at the airport? I finally recalled why I found the guy familiar.]
Seeing this, Huo Yao’s eyes moved slightly as she texted back: [Huh?]
J: [Is he King from Mirage Base?]
J: [Why didn’t you mention you knew him? How could you?]
Meng Jue texted in a jealous tone.
King?
Huo Yao frowned as she rubbed the edge of her phone. She knew King was the highest authority in Mirage Base, but she had never seen the guy in person.
She pondered briefly without answering Meng Jue’s question. Instead, she asked straightforwardly: [What makes you so sure he’s King from Mirage Base?]
Meng Jue felt puzzled seeing this: [Hang on. Don’t you know?]
Huo Yao: [If I knew, would I ask you?]
J: […]
Meng Jue scratched his head. Since he knew Huo Yao was not the sort to jest, he quickly composed a reply: [A couple of years ago, I hacked into Mirage Base for the sake of the hackers’ ranking. After I got in, I went through King’s files. He looks exactly like the man I saw at the airport today.]
For a hacker, a powerful memory was also very important.
After Meng Jue got home, he tapped on the program Huo Yao had sent. Then, he suddenly recalled the guy and texted her.
Huo Yao’s eyes turned dark as she held her phone.
Min Yu mentioned Chairman Sheng was chairman of the Archaeology Association, but he was rarely at the association. Hardly anyone knew him back in the capital either. As for the leader of Mirage Base, King, he was equally mysterious.
These two people… If Meng Jue was right, then King was indeed Chairman Sheng, then that dark silhouette she encountered in the underground palace…
As she pondered, Shangguan Tong said from behind when Huo Yao did not answer, “Yu… I mean Huo Yao, don’t pretend you didn’t hear me. I really need that piece of jade.”
Huo Yao gathered her thoughts. She paused for a second and looked at Aunt Tong to say, “I know why you want the jade. When we get back home, I will go back to the clan with you.”
Shangguan Tong’s eyes turned dark. “You already have your own family now. Why go back with me?”
Huo Yao placed her phone into her pocket. She turned around, pointed at the living room, and whispered, “Tell me. If Eldest Uncle finds out you plan to leave and never come back, do you think he’ll lock you up?”
Shangguan Tong went speechless.
Huo Yao laughed and said, “He will only let you go if you’re with me. Otherwise, you can’t even leave this villa, let alone the country.”
Shangguan Tong’s face turned dark. In the end, she did not say a word, turned around expressionlessly, and turned off the gas loudly.
Huo Yao raised her brow. Since Shangguan Tong was angry, it was best to leave her alone, so she quietly turned to leave.
She had a relaxed expression on her face, but it disappeared the moment she turned around.
The fact that King and Chairman Sheng were the same person, made her a little worried. It felt as though she suddenly found out she was surrounded by an unknown net.
She thought everything was under her control, but someone had thought more steps ahead.
Huo Yao squeezed her brow. She took out her phone, logged into Cloud Realm, and sent Myron a message.
