Chapter 484: Chapter 484: Occupation
“Damn it, our tribe has never interacted with the outside world, why disturb our peace.” The chief sentry is a three-star Silver Hero, who roared furiously upon seeing the people of Starfire Guild approach.
Li Yao said, “You have been controlled by demons, don’t think we wouldn’t know it just because you hide in such a small place. You use dark magic, your bodies have already begun mutating, and yet you talk of peace, truly ridiculous. If indeed your conscience is clear, step aside and let us take a look at this sentry post.”
The three-star Silver Hero immediately changed his facial expression and said, “Since you seek death, don’t blame us for being impolite. You’ve disturbed the slumber of the gods. No one can leave this valley alive.”
“Let’s give it a try then.” Li Yao was somewhat disappointed; he thought that some special plot might have been triggered, only to find that after all this talk, a battle was inevitable.
“Kill them.” At the leader’s command, a volley of arrows whizzed through the air.
Clink, clank…
With the rain of arrows, the Skeletons at the front lines kept falling, and the health pool of the Spider Tank was also depleting rapidly.
“Charge.”
The people of Starfire immediately rushed and initiated their attack.
“Stay in line, don’t lag behind because of your attack range. We aim to reach the central camp.” Li Yao loudly commanded.
The members knew well there were no traps to utilize, nor any Plague Barrels here. If they were ambushed by the centaurs, the team wouldn’t have enough tanks to withstand them. Moreover, in case of an ambush, Li Yao’s Skeletons wouldn’t be able to resupply in a timely manner.
With the obstruction of the Skeletons, the people of Starfire had no choice but to push through and enter the opponent’s formation. However, the centaurs didn’t like to engage in stand and deliver strategies.
They began to scatter; the melee attackers seeking out breaks in Starfire’s formation, and the ranged attackers quickly changing from stationary positions to skirmishing.
“Pick up the pace; we’re running out of fresh Skeletons.” Li Yao wore a solemn expression.
They had already rushed into the sentry post. Turning around was no longer an option, they could only go all-in.
If the obstruction from the Skeletons was gone, Starfire’s fragile members wouldn’t be able to withstand a single blow from the Silver Heroes.
Considering the outcomes of member reduction, they might even fail.
“All the ranged members, prioritize movement. Only use instant-cast spells against the melee centaurs in front.” Li Yao continued issuing orders.
The ranged centaurs kept charging around. To hit them was very difficult, but the melee centaurs standing in their path might not be as difficult to hit.
Eventually, when they were on the verge of running out of Skeletons, they entered the massive building located in the center of the sentry post.
This building was noticeably different from the centaurs’ tent-style buildings. It was made of wood and seemingly contained an Altar-like structure within. However, they didn’t get a chance to examine it closely.
Upon seeing their entry, all centaurs began attacking them frenziedly.
However, the Spider Tank and Starfire’s melee attackers had already barricaded the entrance.
The centaurs could only continue to launch furious charges; the ranged attackers had stopped their skirmishing and were now firing arrows from a distance.
They were however careful not to damage the building as they seemed to hold it in reverence.
“Damn you intruders, you’ve entered holy ground. Get the hell out immediately.” The centaur leader roared upon finding it impossible to penetrate their defenses.
“What god do you worship? Tell us, we might sit down and chat,” Li Yao wanted some additional intel.
Although he knew about this instance, it was one thing for him to know, and another matter entirely when an NPC disclosed it.
There are possibilities for triggering special plotlines within an instance. Even though no one triggered any in his previous life, Li Yao was still very cautious not to overlook anything.
He knew well that many special plotlines required specific conditions. Every NPC had unique backgrounds and different characters.
For instance, a shady old man who loved to drink had been idling in the Human Capital for six years. Many people believed he was a quest-giving NPC. Countless players brought him world-class liquors. One persistent emperor even gave him quality wine for five straight years. He was so obsessed that he’d present more wine as soon as he had the money for it, each day trying to curry favor with the old man.
This old man was indeed a power player. He was a faction leader loaded with top-tier equipment.
The so-called emperor never got anything out of it even after years of giving the best wine. The old man drank every bit and chatted, but never gave any quest or benefits.
Later, an innocent young girl helped this liquor-loving old man kick his alcohol habit. As a reward, she was chosen as his successor. Five years later, she didn’t achieve the Divine Enthronement but did become a top-tier strength among the players.
Her profession was powerful, and although her skills were good, they weren’t exactly top of the line. Many predicted that as soon as her skills notch up a level, the Divine Enthronement would come naturally.
On the contrary, Li Yao was a symbol of unfortunate situations. In his previous life, he had never had any luck. His only fortune was capturing a sub-god level pet, War Bear, at an extremely high cost after countless attempts and failures.
At the Divine Enthronement battle, top-tier players gathered everywhere. With both their skills and luck being top-notch, Li Yao ultimately found his fate grim. Until his reincarnation, no Hunter managed to achieve Divine Enthronement, becoming the laughingstock of all professions.
“Damn, we are the only ones who can charge in here, what about the other guilds?” Guardian Angel’s impregnable wall had been breached several times, even getting him killed once before the rest of the team revived him.
Guardian Angel was under such a tremendous amount of pressure, to say nothing of the average professions. If the Spider Tank hadn’t activated its defense mode, it wouldn’t have been able to hold up.
“I reckon they wouldn’t think of this method. With more than a thousand troops, only a fool would charge in,” Li Yao’s sister commented.
“Definitely! Haha. Without Big Brother’s Mechanical Pet, they’d probably be wiped out by a single volley from the centaurs,” Totem Sa, a dumb but adorable girl, kept releasing totems.
As a Totem Sa, she loved this kind of positional warfare the most. Once all of her totems were out, even if she remained stationary, the damage would automatically pile up.
With the Spider Tank changing its mode to defensive form, their frontline became stable. Seeing Li Yao’s mechanical pet in action, members of the guild realized its power. The centaurs couldn’t barge in, allowing their ranged attackers and healers to relax a bit.
“Come to think of it, this hall entrance is actually the best place for a deciding battle. Without it, defeating one thousand plus centaurs would be very difficult and slow,” Qin Fengyi commented.
Unparalleled Beauty agreed, “Right, actually other teams could come in as well, but it would be a bit more troublesome.”
Li Yao’s sister nodded, “Dragging the bodies in is the only way. If combined with other strategies, they could possibly defend the hall, but it’s impossible to do it as effortlessly as we did.”
Members of the guild nodded in acknowledgment, the capture of this sentry post had become inevitable…
