Chapter 234: Chapter 234: Taking the Initiative
“`
Wan Guotao and Lv Chengxue were both just First Turn Ascenders, and among the twelve Ascenders outside, there was the existence of a Seventh Turn, which was quite frightening.
A First Turn Ascender’s Attribute could at most be eighty, but a Seventh Turn Ascender, equivalent to an increase of sixty percent in Attributes, could reach 128 if calculated using the top Attribute of eighty.
Just the absolute suppression of Attributes alone could crush a fellow First Turn Ascender.
Yet Lin Shen wasn’t too worried about this Seventh Turn Ascender because, over such a long time, the Attributes accumulated by the Sacrificial Halo had exceeded 150. Added to his own innate Attributes, when he struck with full force, his other Attributes could surpass 190, with Strength even breaking 200.
As long as he seized the opportunity well, he had a great chance of killing a Seventh Turn Ascender with a single strike.
But even if his strike was powerful, it could only kill one Ascender, and there were still twelve others outside. After killing the Seventh Turn Ascender, the remaining Ascenders would still easily encircle and kill him and his sister.
Even if all of them were First Turn Ascenders, Lin Shen and Lin Miao still stood no chance, not to mention that it was impossible for them all to be First Turn Ascenders.
Instructor Mu wanted to say something else but suddenly saw over a dozen figures appear in the sky outside the base, attempting to forcefully breach into the base.
The ruckus of the earlier fight had been enormous. Wan Shuiliu and the others outside heard the commotion and saw Wan Guotao’s Life Base Sword soar into the sky, and knowing that something had happened, they no longer cared about Hai Daxiu’s dignity and directly attempted to storm into Sea Corn Base.
Hai Daxiu had been prepared for a long time, originally just to guard against the Wan Family taking advantage of the situation to harm Sea Corn Base, and had not expected Wan Guotao and Lv Chengxue to be killed.
But no matter what, Hai Daxiu couldn’t allow the Wan Family’s people to start a battle within her base.
Hai Daxiu, leading many Ascenders from Sea Corn Base, rose into the sky and blocked the twelve Wan Family Ascenders who were trying to storm Sea Corn Base.
Wan Shuiliu had already seen Wan Guotao lying dead on the street and also saw Lin Shen and Lin Miao standing with Instructor Mu and the Six Paths Phoenix, greatly surprised in his heart.
He recognized at a glance that the Six Paths Phoenix was Wan Nianbei’s Spirit Base and was surprised that the supposedly defective Spirit Base could be used, and he also deduced that Wan Guotao had been slain by the Six Paths Phoenix.
“Could it be that Catherine wanted Wan Nianbei’s Spirit Base for some other reason?” A thought flashed through Wan Shuiliu’s mind.
“Hai Daxiu, a member of my Wan Family has died in your Sea Corn Base. Are you planning to shield the murderer, or did you originally intend to start a war with my Wan Family?” Wan Shuiliu said, seizing the moral high ground with his words.
Hai Daxiu spoke indifferently, “The one who killed your Wan Family’s Ascender is from the Lin Family and has nothing to do with my Sea Corn Base. However, this Sea Corn Base is not a place to be trampled upon by others. I don’t care about a fight to the death among yourselves, but if you want to fight, take it outside. No one is allowed to run rampant in my base.”
“So if they stay inside your Sea Corn Base for a lifetime, do I have to wait outside for a lifetime?” Wan Shuiliu said coldly.
“Within today, members of the Wan Family and the Lin Family must both leave Sea Corn Base. Settle your own disputes. Neither party is allowed to harm the people and property of Sea Corn Base, otherwise, if you want to fight or battle it out, Sea Corn Base will accompany you to the end,” Hai Daxiu resolutely confronted Wan Shuiliu.
“Fine, Sea Corn Base has its rules, I respect your rules, Hai Daxiu, and Sea Corn Base’s. I will wait outside until midnight,” Wan Shuiliu said, his gaze sharp as a blade as he glanced at Lin Shen and Lin Miao inside the base and then turned to leave the base.
Seeing Wan Shuiliu and his people waiting outside the base, Hai Daxiu instructed the other Ascenders to stay and watch, while she herself flew over to Lin Shen and Instructor Mu.
“You heard what was just said. I can only keep you here until midnight. Otherwise, if a battle breaks out among Ascenders within the base, countless people might be caught in the crossfire, and that is a cost I cannot bear,” Hai Daxiu said, looking at Lin Shen.
She was quite curious about Lin Shen, a Mutator who had emerged from a place like Dark Bird Base and was capable of killing an Ascender above his level; it was indeed surprising.
“How is them leaving now any different from sending them to their deaths?” Instructor Mu sighed.
“I’m sorry, Sea Corn Base isn’t mine alone; I don’t have the authority to use others’ lives to save someone,” Hai Daxiu said.
“`
“You’ve helped us buy so much time already, my sister and I are extremely grateful,” Lin Miao said, bowing slightly.
Lin Shen knew that Hai Daxiu had no familial ties with them and was under no obligation to make enemies of so many Ascenders from the Wan Family on their behalf.
The fact that Hai Daxiu did not immediately send them away was out of consideration for Instructor Mu, and that itself was a great help in buying them so much time.
Lin Shen now had the option to teleport to an Alien World again, but if he did that, when he and Lin Miao returned, they would have to face not only the Wan Family; Ascenders from Hai Daxiu and Sea Corn Base would become their enemies too.
Hai Daxiu had secured them a day’s time. Running now would be the same as forcing Hai Daxiu and his people to side with the Wan Family, with even more serious consequences.
Lin Shen knew that he couldn’t run now; his only choice was to take a risky gamble.
He didn’t plan to wait until midnight to leave. The biggest advantage of the one day Hai Daxiu had secured for them was that he could go out alone first, while his elder sister could still stay inside the base until midnight.
With this difference in time, the siblings would not be attacked together.
They definitely couldn’t win a fight. If both went out together and were surrounded, not even the Six Paths Phoenix could ensure Lin Miao’s safety.
Now, Lin Shen only had one chance. If he could take out Wan Shuiliu, a Seventh Turn, in one strike and intimidate the rest of the Wan Family’s Ascenders, he could last through the day.
Lin Shen retracted the Base Mutation Carapace from his body and turned to Instructor Mu to say, “Instructor, I am considering leaving the city by myself. Please take care of my elder sister for the time being.”
Hearing Lin Shen speak, both Instructor Mu and Hai Daxiu were taken aback. They exchanged looks, not understanding Lin Shen’s intention.
“Lin Shen…” Lin Miao began to say something upon hearing this but was interrupted by Lin Shen.
“Elder sister, this time you must listen to me,” Lin Shen said, unable to explain but looking resolutely at Lin Miao.
Although Lin Miao didn’t know what Lin Shen was planning, she chose to trust him.
At this point, their situation was dire, a dead end. Before her impending death, she was willing to place her trust in Lin Shen.
“You and your sister can only stay in the base until midnight,” Hai Daxiu misunderstood Lin Shen’s intent, thinking that Lin Shen still wanted Instructor Mu and Sea Corn Base to protect Lin Miao, which was of course impossible.
Even if Lin Shen were to die, the Wan Family people would not let Lin Miao go, and Hai Daxiu would not be able to protect her.
“I understand,” Lin Shen nodded slightly and then took out his watch.
Hai Daxiu saw Lin Shen take out the watch and couldn’t help but frown slightly, thinking that Lin Shen intended to teleport to the Alien World again.
Lin Shen handed the watch to Lin Miao and said, “Keep the teleporter on you, and if you see a chance, rush out of the base and then use it to teleport away.”
Lin Miao, however, showed no intention of taking it and calmly said, “You and I, brother and sister, can only live or die together. There should be no surviving alone.”
“Alright,” Lin Shen knew his elder sister’s temperament and that teleporting would indeed only save their lives temporarily and would not solve the real problem.
After putting away the watch, Lin Shen bowed again to Instructor Mu, “Instructor Mu, I must entrust my elder sister to your care for now.”
Having said that, Lin Shen turned and walked towards the base’s main gate
