Chapter 235: Chapter 235: Hammering Armor
“What on earth is this guy up to?” A man sat in a private room on the second floor of the teahouse, watching Lin Shen walk alone toward the base entrance, his eyes filled with curiosity.
“Big brother, is that the playboy Lin Shen you mentioned? It’s such a shame, not having had the chance to speak with him before he’s about to die,” said the girl beside him, who had a somewhat boyish look, sighing.
“There’s nothing that can be done about it. The Wan Family has twelve Ascenders, including the Seventh Turn Ascender Wan Shuiliu. There are fewer than ten families on the mother planet capable of suppressing them, and unfortunately, those few probably have no reason to save the Lin Siblings,” Tu Xiaodao said, shaking his head.
“Didn’t you say you have a good relationship with that Lin Shen? Are you not going to see him one last time before he dies?” the girl asked again.
“If he dies, it will all disappear like smoke in the air. There’s no point in saying anything now, let’s hope someone can lend him a hand,” Tu Xiaodao shook his head.
Lin Shen arrived at the entrance of the base and from a distance saw the twelve Ascenders of the Wan Family standing not far outside the base.
They also saw Lin Shen, their gazes coldly fixed on him.
Taking a deep breath, Lin Shen stepped out of the base and alone headed toward the twelve Ascenders of the Wan Family.
Lin Shen had Wan Guotao’s sword and Lv Chengxue’s knife strapped to his back, and Wan Guotao’s Eighty-Speed Pet Launcher hanging at his waist.
Regrettably, he couldn’t activate his Spirit Base, and he likewise couldn’t use the Ascendant Pet Launchers.
Wan Shuiliu and the others were somewhat surprised to see Lin Shen walk out alone, not expecting him to come out so soon.
As he walked, Lin Shen removed the knife and sword from his back and tossed them onto the ground.
The Wan Family members were somewhat puzzled by what Lin Shen was doing and did not attack him for the moment.
Their primary targets were Lin Miao and Wan Nianbei’s Spirit Base; killing Lin Shen was merely incidental.
They hadn’t witnessed the deaths of Wan Guotao and Lv Chengxue, assuming both were killed by the Six Paths Phoenix and thus did not take Lin Shen very seriously.
Without a word, Lin Shen continued walking forward, simultaneously removing the Pet Launcher from his waist and throwing it onto the ground as well.
Hai Daxiu and Instructor Mu, watching from atop the protective wall, were also puzzled by Lin Shen’s actions, unsure what he was up to.
After discarding the Pet Launcher, Lin Shen still moved toward Wan Shuiliu, his gaze fixated on him the whole time.
“Wan Guotao and Lv Chengxue were both slain by me. The Ascenders of the Wan Family are nothing special. Wan Shuiliu, since you are intent on Stubborn Lone Will and wish to seek death, then come out and meet it,” Lin Shen said as he walked toward Wan Shuiliu.
Upon these words, everyone watching secretly showed a look of astonishment on their faces.
They racked their brains but had not anticipated that Lin Shen would say such things after he came out alone.
“Haha, this man is really interesting. It’s just a pity he’s about to die,” Ximen Swordsman sat on the wall enjoying the spectacle, laughing out loud hearing Lin Shen’s words.
Instructor Mu and Hai Daxiu were both stunned. They had seen boldness before, but never had they seen a Mutator be so bold in the presence of Ascenders.
“Is this student of yours really not ill in the head?” Hai Daxiu asked Instructor Mu, his expression complex.
“He should… not be ill…” Instructor Mu couldn’t figure out what Lin Shen was up to either.
The Ascenders of the Wan Family were not enraged; they simply looked at Lin Shen as if he were a clown.
In their view, Lin Shen’s words were merely an attempt to shoulder the blame himself, to clear Lin Miao of any association.
But such a thought was obviously too naive.
The Wan Family had come specifically for Lin Miao, and even if that hadn’t been the case, killing Lin Shen certainly wouldn’t have meant sparing Lin Miao.
Since they’d made their move, they were determined to eliminate the roots of potential trouble, leaving no threat behind.
Wan Shuiliu glanced at Liu Zhong, the Ascender standing beside him, who understood his intention and immediately summoned his Life Base.
A lu-li-like giant hammer tore through the air, aiming straight for Lin Shen.
Although hammer-type Life Bases weren’t as fast as sword-types, their destructive power was generally a lot stronger.
Lin Shen’s Base Mutation Carapace appeared on his body, and as the lu-li giant hammer swooped down, he shifted to the left like a phantom in a split second.
Lin Shen was fast, but still considerably slower than the hammer, and he failed to completely dodge it.
The hammer struck Lin Shen’s shoulder, shattering the carapace there.
Fortunately, it had only hit his shoulder and had not struck any vital parts.
The hammer spun in the air and lunged at Lin Shen again, this time with increased speed.
Lin Shen moved swiftly, but clearly couldn’t keep up with the hammer, which swept past his ribs, leaving a large crack in the carapace and blood seeping out.
“He talked so big earlier; I thought he had some real skills, but it turns out he’s just like this,” the girl beside Tu Xiaodao said a bit disappointed.
“He must have his reasons for doing this,” Tu Xiaodao said with a frown.
“He’s been beaten to such a state; what reason could there be? A few more blows and he could be smashed to death, does he plan to go argue with Yama?” The girl snorted, “Big brother, you said this guy was so powerful, but I think he’s all talk. You must’ve been fooled by him.”
“Maybe,” Tu Xiaodao said, choosing not to say anything further.
Liu Zhong’s hammer struck Lin Shen time after time, fracturing the carapace all over his body, but it still didn’t kill him.
At this point, some people began to notice something odd. Lin Shen’s carapace was regenerating at a visibly rapid pace, growing redder and more golden like a piece of iron heated in the forge.
Every time Liu Zhong’s hammer hit the carapace, it sprayed out sparks like molten lava.
Yet it still failed to kill Lin Shen on the spot. On the contrary, Lin Shen seemed to be getting faster.
“What kind of innate ability is this? It seems to get stronger as the battle progresses,” the girl was surprised.
Not just her, everyone watching was surprised by Lin Shen’s performance. A Mutator, taking so many hits from an Ascender, increasing in speed, and with a carapace that regenerated so quickly, was not something an ordinary Mutator could achieve.
“Could it be that he was able to kill Lv Chengxue because this ability is quite powerful,” Hai Daxiu speculated with an epiphany.
The hammer continued to beat on Lin Shen, hammering the carapace out of shape, as if forging an iron billet.
Finally, the brilliantly translucent carapace, now radiant and splendid, suddenly cooled, and white mist rose.
Within that mist, Lin Shen, aglow with resplendent radiance, threw a punch at the lu-li giant hammer Life Base that was again descending upon him.
Boom!
The lu-li giant hammer was actually split open by Lin Shen’s punch, his force able to contend with the Ascender’s Life Base.
