Chapter 250: Chapter 250: Blood-Face Bug
“`
Lin Shen listened carefully and discovered that the sound was coming from the left side of the stone house.
The stone house where they lived was in a row. On the right was the stone house where Ximen Swordsman lived, and to the left was the stone house Lin Shen had occupied during the day.
“Did Yu rent out that room so quickly?” Lin Shen thought to himself that this was quite normal.
It was probably someone who had gone out during the day and hurried back before nightfall.
There were a total of four rows of stone houses with over a dozen rooms in each row. Besides Yu, Lin Shen had only seen a few people during the day; most must have been out hunting Base Variant Creatures.
Lin Shen listened again and speculated that there must be a woman in the left stone house. Even though she was just humming casually, not very loudly, the voice was quite tasteful and seductive.
After listening for a while, a dim, yellow light appeared on the wall, as though from a lamp shining through the cracks.
The stone houses were originally constructed from irregular stones stacked together, with a white type of ash used as mortar at the seams. It was normal for the ash to fall off over time, creating gaps.
If it were any other time, Lin Shen wouldn’t care about such a thing. But in this dark environment, and in this particular place, he actually felt the urge to peek through the crack to see what the woman living in the neighboring stone house looked like.
“Peeking at someone’s privacy isn’t right, and since I’ve just arrived here, being discovered would ruin my reputation,” Lin Shen steadied his mind and decided not to look.
However, the nights on Giant Ring Star were too eerily quiet and too fiercely dark, making the faint glimmering light even more eye-catching.
Lin Shen couldn’t make out what the woman was humming, but it sounded like she was in a very good mood.
“It seems she had a very fruitful day and is in a great mood. I wonder what she caught. I’ll just take a look at her prey,” Lin Shen reasoned with himself after resisting for a while, but he ultimately couldn’t hold back. He tiptoed to the wall and leaned his eye close to the crack.
The crack was tiny, just the size of a peanut, allowing only a small hole for Lin Shen to look through.
Lin Shen was lucky; he immediately saw a room filled with a dim yellow glow. A woman was sitting on a tall stone, her back to Lin Shen, casually humming an unintelligible song while combing her hair with a brush.
Because all he could see was her back, he couldn’t make out much, only that she was a woman in a white spaghetti strap long dress, sitting in such a way that her hips looked exceptionally round.
Her black hair hung down like a waterfall, and as she placed the brush on it, one couldn’t help but imagine that if she let the brush go, it would slide straight down.
Lin Shen glanced once and then shifted his gaze away, sitting back down on the stone.
He was just a bit curious, not a real Peeping Tom. A glance was enough for him.
The woman seemed to be in a good mood, humming continuously. Lin Shen listened for a while and felt inexplicably irritable.
“Since it’s night now and no one dares to go out, let’s try if the mechanical watch can be used here,” Lin Shen took out his mechanical watch, unsure if it would work in this place.
He already had a Giant Ring Star teleportation watch on his hand. Whether he could use another teleportation watch to go to other planets while on Giant Ring Star was another matter.
Lin Shen gave it a try, setting the time very short. After pressing the teleport switch, the scenery before his eyes suddenly changed, and he found himself back in the familiar desert.
Because he had set coordinates before leaving, he arrived back at the same place he had left. On the ground lay the bodies of many Green Crystal Warriors.

Unexpectedly, atop the corpse of the Green Crystal Warrior, crawled numerous fist-sized, ladybug-like black bugs.
These black bugs were feasting on the Green Crystal Warrior’s corpse, their numbers terrifyingly vast, with each corpse swarming with them.
The corpses of the Blue Crystal Warrior and Purple Crystal Warrior were in the same condition, covered with such bugs.
Lin Shen hurriedly looked over to the corpse of the Red Crystal Warrior, which he hadn’t been able to take with him last time; all the bodies had been left here, and Lin Shen had intended to retrieve the mutant warriors’ corpses when he had time.
Upon closer inspection, there weren’t as many bugs on the Red Crystal Warrior’s corpse.
Whereas the other corpses were covered with a dense mass of black bugs, on the Red Crystal Warrior’s corpse there was unexpectedly just one black bug with red stripes.
This peculiar red-striped black bug looked very strange; the rest were entirely jet-black like obsidian.
The red stripes on the bug’s back resembled glowing red-hot iron wires, sketching out an abstract human face pattern.
The pattern was somewhat reminiscent of ancient theatrical face paint, but all the lines were red, giving it a very bizarre appearance.
Since Lin Shen was still a distance away from the Green Crystal Warrior’s corpse, the bugs were busily devouring the bodies and hadn’t noticed him.
Lin Shen thought for a moment, didn’t rush over, but rather slowly lay down and quietly observed the bugs.
The bugs were too numerous, with thousands upon the Green Crystal Warriors’ corpses. Each body had at least several dozen bugs, with some possibly hosting over a hundred.
If all these bugs were Crystal-based Creatures, then there would be tens of thousands of them, and Lin Shen didn’t know what abilities they possessed; if they were to attack in a swarm, Lin Shen didn’t know if he could handle them.
The key point was that these bugs, like ladybugs, had wings and were capable of flight.
“Where did so many bugs come from?” Lin Shen couldn’t figure it out at the moment.
Fortunately, he had set the teleportation to occur after a short time – he would be leaving in an hour.
When the time for teleportation was near, he could release his pets to kill some of the bugs to see what they were capable of.
Lin Shen’s calculations in his mind were sound, but he had underestimated the bugs’ rate of consumption.
In just about fifteen minutes, the bugs had already devoured a large portion of the corpses. At this rate, it would take at most half an hour for all the bodies to be consumed by them.
The Blood-Face Bug had nearly finished with the Red Crystal Warrior’s corpse, leaving only remnants and scraps.
Lin Shen instinctively retreated further to avoid being discovered by the bugs after they finished their meal.
As Lin Shen had thought, it took only a few minutes for the Blood-Face Bug to completely consume the Red Crystal Warrior’s corpse, leaving not a trace behind.
The other black bugs didn’t take much longer to devour all the warriors’ bodies, leaving nothing behind.
“Lucky I arrived just in time, otherwise, I would have thought that someone had taken away the bodies; who would have guessed they’d been eaten by the bugs.” As Lin Shen was thinking this, he witnessed an eerie sight.
