Chapter 258: Chapter 258: Reserved for the Destined Person
Lin Shen rode the Evil Dragon through the Star Belt, and just as Tian Xun had said, humans could indeed survive very freely in the Star Belt. The breathing was very smooth, much more comfortable than inside the Giant Ring Star.
The sensation within the Star Belt was incredibly wondrous, made up of a marvelous substance that seemed to exist between liquid and gas.
He could sense its slight resistance and viscosity, yet he couldn’t quite grasp it. Breathing it in made his body feel comfortably warm. If there were a bed here, Lin Shen reckoned he could fall asleep immediately.
All around were massive floating ring islands, with the larger ones comparable to planets and the smaller ones the size of real islands.
Each floating ring island was covered in lush vegetation, colorful and pleasing to the eye.
The floating island that Tian Xun referred to was the largest one, covered in all sorts of flowers and plants, like an enormous airborne garden.
Strangely, on that floating island, there was a distinct scar-like area, void of any plant life, ugly and lifeless as if a long wound on a planet’s surface.
“There must be some trick to that spot, right? Could it be that walking this path would drain a person’s life force, deplete their lifespan, and that’s why Tian Xun wanted me to go?” Lin Shen had never truly trusted Tian Xun from the start; he just lacked the strength to refuse her.
He possessed the Evolution Theory within him, so he wasn’t too afraid of these unique environments.
“Let’s go down and take a look,” Lin Shen said as he rode the Evil Dragon onto the vast floating ring island.
Unlike Giant Ring Star, the floating ring island itself was immersed within the Star Belt, with no atmosphere to protect it.
Lin Shen easily entered the island, his finger constantly on the button of his wristwatch, ready to initiate an emergency transmission escape at any sign of danger.
As he got closer, Lin Shen could see more clearly. The ugly scar turned out to be a stone staircase running through the mountains.
With barren mountains on either side of the stairway, it appeared quite stark from above.
Once he landed at the start of the stone path, he immediately saw many skeletons lying around. Some of them still had their clothes intact, many of which were very high-quality battle clothes, much more advanced than the Ultraburn Battle Suits.
Most of those skeletons had wing-like bones, presumably belonging to the Celestial Race.
Scattered around were various Spirit Bases, covered in thick dust, their original appearances obscured.
Some skeletons clearly didn’t belong to the Celestial Race, showing all sorts of strange characteristics.
“It seems that those who once surrounded the Hell Gatekeeper weren’t just from the Celestial Race…” Lin Shen continued upwards along the stone steps, occasionally glancing at the information on his wristwatch.
His theoretical life span limit hadn’t changed, indicating that his earlier thoughts might have been an overreaction. At least this path didn’t seem to consume his lifespan.
Since his body felt no discomfort and the Evolution Theory wasn’t activated, the path turned out to be unexpectedly easy to traverse.
As Lin Shen walked, he searched for the Archangel’s Sword. He hadn’t found the sword yet, but the various skeletons and items he encountered greatly surprised him.
Every short distance, he came across numerous skeletons and broken Spirit Bases. Who knows how many Ascenders had died here? He had only walked a short distance and had already seen no less than a thousand skeletons.
Tian Xun, on another ring island far away, was using the equipment on the flying vessel to remotely monitor every move that Lin Shen made.
“Good, he hasn’t been greedy enough to take those Spirit Bases. But this isn’t the real test yet. It should be coming up soon. Will he still be able to control his greed after he sees that?” Tian Xun watched Lin Shen with great interest.
She wasn’t concerned with Lin Shen’s life or death; if Lin Shen died, she could find another human to retrieve the sword for her. Eventually, someone would be able to bring back the Archangel’s Sword. As long as they weren’t greedy, it wouldn’t be a difficult task.
Under Tian Xun’s watchful eye, Lin Shen reached a section where the stone steps were damaged.
The stone steps in this section were severely damaged; it was almost impossible to see any intact ones, and the mountainsides on both sides had collapsed extensively, forming two massive pits.
There were many fallen rocks on the stone steps, so Lin Shen had to climb up using both hands and feet.
The main issue was that he didn’t know where the Archangel’s Sword was located, and Tian Xun had also warned him that after ascending the stone steps, he couldn’t use pets for flying, and it was best not to use other pets either.
Suddenly, Lin Shen noticed a person sitting on a large rock inside one of the pits at the side.
The reason he said it was a person, and not a skeleton, was because that person wore a complete suit of carapace armor.
Dressed in purple jade armor, the figure sat cross-legged on the large rock, as still as an old monk in meditation, not a speck of dust on him.
There was not a single scratch on his armor; it didn’t look like he was a dead man at all.
Unfortunately, the armor enveloped his entire body, obscuring his true face.
“Can a dead person still maintain armor?” Lin Shen had never seen a dead person maintain their armor, but according to Tian Xun’s tone, there shouldn’t be any living people here.
Suddenly, Lin Shen saw that between the hands of that person, there was a purple egg.
Lin Shen had never seen such an egg before; it resembled a profound miniature universe, with countless stars moving within, their light flickering and vanishing, numerous galaxies spinning and speeding, possessing an indescribable mystery.
Not knowing what creature’s egg it was, Lin Shen just took a few glances and prepared to continue upward.
As his eyes swept across the large rock under that person, Lin Shen stopped in his tracks again.
Inscribed on the rock were several lines of text, in the common human language that Lin Shen could understand.
“Here lies my friend, the Slaughterer King, in transformation. The Nirvana Egg of the God-Devouring Beast awaits the destined. Forbidden for non-humans, or calamity shall befall.”
“Damn, is that a Nirvana Egg?” Lin Shen couldn’t believe his eyes as he stared wide-eyed.
Gazing at the egg of the God-Devouring Beast for a good while, Lin Shen really felt tempted.
The value of a Nirvana Egg was unimaginable; the resources just one of these could bring were more than enough for Lin Shen’s Tenth Turn Ascension, not to mention the inscription said it was forbidden for non-humans.
After staring at the Nirvana Egg for a good while, Lin Shen took a deep breath, withdrew his gaze, and continued to climb.
“It’s a good treasure, but I fear I might not live to enjoy it,” Lin Shen murmured to himself.
If the Nirvana Egg was so easy to take, why would it simply be left here, not taken by anyone?
The Celestial Race wasn’t foolish, and it would be no trouble for Tian Xun to bring thousands of humans here, so if it were possible to take it, it would have been taken long ago.
Its current presence here could only mean that no one was able to take it.
Lin Shen always believed that life was more important than anything else; if not for the lack of ability to refuse, he wouldn’t have agreed to Tian Xun’s request to come here for the Archangel’s Sword.
“To resist the temptation, your nature is not bad,” Tian Xun was quite relieved to see Lin Shen not touch the Nirvana Egg, and could at least confirm that her judgment wasn’t wrong, and she hadn’t chosen the wrong person.
Just when she was feeling reassured, Lin Shen, who hadn’t walked far, turned back, his eyes intently fixed on the corpse of the Slaughterer King.
